He calls for avoiding “divisive and unnecessary provisions.“
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer offered his support for ongoing government spending negotiations this week. Congress has until December 20 to avert a government shutdown with either temporary funding or a full budget. A full budget is unlikely, but Senator Schumer is pleased that efforts are “making progress negotiating on a bill that can pass the House and Senate with bipartisan support.”
“We need to keep divisive and unnecessary provisions out of any government funding extension, or else it will get harder to pass a [continuing resolution] in time,” the Senate majority leader said, referencing the formal term for a temporary funding agreement. “For now, I’m pleased negotiations are on the right track, and I thank the appropriators in both chambers for their good work.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For congressional negotiators to be prudent as they discuss appropriations to avoid a government shutdown.
- For discernment for the Senate majority leader and House speaker as they oversee the budget negotiations.
